Our club has a very proud history of supporting female students at both the secondary and college level through scholarships to assist with the cost of postsecondary education.
Our terms state that scholarships are awarded to:
- The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, and to the Bluewater District Board of Education for female students who are continuing their studies at a post-secondary college or university, to be awarded based on the student’s need for financial assistance and on their level of academic merit.
- To Georgian College, Owen Sound Campus, for a female student in her second year of post-secondary study, to be awarded based on the student’s need for financial assistance and on their level of academic merit.
To comply with the Ontario Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), award recipients are chosen by the individual institutions.
Scientists in School
One of the central goals of CFUW is supporting women and children within our community. A recent focus for our club in Owen Sound has been our involvement with the Scientists in School program, created to introduce and engage young minds to the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in a fun, interactive way. Workshops, held either virtually or in the classroom, and facilitated by scientists, are designed to develop problem solving skills, build confidence and encourage a love of sciences in children.
